![6/10/21 ***NO REPRO FEE*** Minister Simon Harris announces €28m in Irish Research Council funding to support the next generation of top researchers. Pictured today (06.10.21) to mark the announcement of €28m in funding for new research projects under the Irish Research Council’s flagship Government of Ireland programmes was Postgraduate researcher, Brakemi Egbedi, from Waterford Institute of Technology her project investigating whether shell waste is a waste product or untapped resource that could have potential use in pharmaceutical applications. The investment, announced by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris TD will fund 330 awards in total, namely 254 postgraduate scholarships and 76 postdoctoral fellowships. Awardees will conduct research on a multitude of topics, ranging from bicycle-sharing systems to the susceptibility of young people to be influenced by social media influencers. Pic: Marc O'Sullivan.

Research Summit, Radisson Blu Hotel, Cork Monday 20th – Tuesday 21st November 2023

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the Irish Research Council (IRC) will host a joint Research Summit as a hybrid event in Cork on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st of November 2023.
With the theme ‘Looking to the future, together’, the Research Summit provides a unique opportunity to bring SFI’s and IRC’s research communities together, celebrating collective achievements and looking to the future and the significant opportunity that Taighde Éireann-Research Ireland – the Government’s new research and innovation funding agency – provides.
Over the 1.5-day programme of keynotes, panel discussions and workshops, key themes such as research culture and integrity, greening Ireland’s research laboratories, inter- and transdisciplinarity and the impact of Artificial Intelligence on academia, will be explored.
The Research Summit will hear from a diverse range of researchers across various disciplines, as well as featuring insights on the new research and innovation funding agency’s strategic direction, an awards ceremony and poster showcase.
Keynote speakers include:
- Dr Daniele Fanelli, Meta Scientist at the Luxemburg Agency for Research Integrity, and London School of Economics
- Dr Katriona O’Sullivan, Psychologist and author, Maynooth University
- Prof. Jennifer Richards, Chair of Faculty of English, Cambridge University
