Advanced Laureate Awards Programme

Programme at a glance

The Advanced Laureate Awards are for established, leading principal investigators who want funding to pursue ground-breaking, high-risk research.

Expression of Interest (EOI)

Expressions of Interest for the upcoming Advanced Laureate Awards will now be accepted through the intended host institution. Please complete the EOI form for applicants in the sidebar and send it to the research office or equivalent for submission.

The Research Office must submit the EOI form on behalf of applicants on or before 4pm (Irish time), 14 October 2022. Direct submissions by the applicant will not be accepted. Failure to submit an EOI by this deadline will disqualify applicants from submitting a full proposal. This will be strictly enforced.

After the EOI deadline, the IRC will compile a final list of applicants from each institution. Each list will be sent to the relevant research office for final endorsement.

Eligibility and suitability

  • Applications can be made in any field of research.
  • Applicants must have been awarded their first PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) no less than 15 years prior to the 10th of November 2022. The PhD must have been conferred on or before that date (i.e. 10 November 2007).  Where multiple PhDs are held, eligibility will be determined against the first PhD awarded.
  • Applications must be submitted by a single principal investigator with the support of a host institution. The principal investigator does not necessarily need to be working at the host institution at the time when the proposal is submitted. However, a mutual agreement and the host institution’s commitment on how the relationship will be established are necessary, should the proposal be successful.

The number of applications across all the IRC’s programmes always exceeds the number of awards that can be made. As such, the following restrictions will apply to the current call:

  • Current IRC Advanced Laureate awardees will not be eligible for the 2022/23 Advanced call, but may apply to any subsequent call.
  • There is no restriction on the resubmission of unsuccessful applications from the last call. However, applications that do not progress beyond stage 1 of the current call may face restrictions to future calls.
  • Reserve, ineligible or withdrawn proposals from the last call do not count against any of the above restrictions.
